The Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator: discover yourself, understand others

The MBTI test, first published in 1943, was developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. Shortly after, Carl Jung published his Psychological Types theory (1921; 1923 in English), Katharine realized how his work resembled hers.

Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types proposes that people are innately different, both in terms of the way they see the world and take in information, and how they make decisions. Briggs and Myers thought that these ideas were so useful that they wanted to make them accessible to a wider audience. The MBTI test is used in everyday life.

It has become the most popular personality instrument in the world. Its positive approach to understanding differences seems to be appreciated by the two million people who around the world complete the test every year.

It contains different cognitive functions which can be summarized using these acronyms: Ni, Ne, TI, Te, Fi, Fe, Si, Se.

For example, if your dominant function is Ni ( introverted intuition), you probably may have this personality:

You generally prefer solitary activities to interacting with large groups of people. You tend to shrink from social contacts and to become preoccupied with their own thoughts.
